18 Sep Visualization and Manifestation: Busting Myths and Making It Work

Have you ever felt like you’re “just not good” at visualization? Maybe you’ve tried to picture your dream life a hundred times, but your mind wanders, or you can’t see anything at all. If that sounds familiar, you’re not the only one, and you’re definitely not broken.

In fact, so many people ask me about visualization after I shared how much I love the process that I dedicated a full episode of my Wildly Wealthy Women podcast to it. In this post, I’ll bust some of the most common myths, share my personal experiences, and explain how visualization really works, from both a manifesting angle and a neuroscience one.

Why Visualization Matters in Manifestation

When I was $100,000 in debt, visualization became the one tool I leaned on again and again. Every time I closed my eyes and imagined my dream life in vivid detail, something shifted inside me. Even in the middle of my money mess, I felt lighter, excited, and for just a moment, I believed abundance was possible for me.

That’s the magic of visualization. It’s not just daydreaming. It’s about moving your energy, aligning your emotions with your desires, and becoming magnetic to the opportunities and ideas that bring those desires into reality.

Myth #1: You Need to See a Perfect Movie in Your Mind

This is the myth that trips the most people up. They believe visualization means creating some kind of 3D, full-color movie in your head. But guess what? I’ve never been able to do that and I’ve still manifested millions of dollars, my dream home, winning awards, having a bestselling book, travelling the world – sooooo many things!

When I visualize, I don’t see a movie screen. It’s more like a sense, a thought, an imagining. And that’s enough. Because visualization isn’t about the picture, it’s about the feelings.

Some people see images. Others feel sensations. Some just “know.” There’s no wrong way. The key is to generate the emotions of already having what you want: joy, gratitude, excitement, relief.

Myth #2: If You Can’t See Yourself, You’re Doing It Wrong

Another big question I get is: “I can’t see myself in the visualization does that mean it’s not working?”

Actually, not at all. When you visualize, you want to experience it through your own eyes. For example, if you’re manifesting your dream home, instead of watching yourself on a mental movie screen walking through it, imagine looking down at your hand opening the front door, or feeling the breeze through the window as you look out at the view.

You don’t need to “see yourself.” You need to be yourself inside the visualization, feeling as if it’s already real.

Myth #3: Your Wandering Mind Means You’re Hopeless

Raise your hand if this has happened to you: you sit down to visualize, and two minutes later you’re thinking about what’s for dinner or what’s on your to-do list.

This is totally normal. The mind loves to wander. Visualization is like training a puppy… you just gently bring it back each time. Start small, maybe just one or two minutes focused on a single desire. Over time, it gets easier, and the habit becomes stronger.

One thing that helps enormously is guided visualization. I absolutely love them. It’s like having a personal trainer for your mind, keeping you focused and on track. That’s why I create so many for my students in Divine Money Manifesting, they take the pressure off and make the process easy and super powerful.

What to Focus On When You Have Many Dreams

A common question is: “How do I visualize when I want to manifest money, health, love, and more?”

You can either:
Focus on one exciting goal at a time (this keeps your energy laser-sharp), or
Create a “snapshot” scene that represents all your desires together, like being in your dream home, feeling vibrant and healthy, and enjoying time with a loved one.

The Universe mainly responds to your emotions, not the details. So whether you focus on one thing or many, the most important part is to feel the joy, gratitude, and excitement of already living it.

Does Visualization Get Easier With Practice?

Yes! Visualization is like a muscle, the more you practice, the stronger it gets.

At first it may feel clunky, or like nothing’s happening. But consistency builds momentum. Even short daily moments add up. And once you’ve visualized something and seen it show up in your life, your confidence skyrockets. You realize just how powerful this practice really is.

The Science Behind Visualization

If the “woo woo” side of manifestation isn’t enough to convince you, let me share the science. Neuroscience has shown that the brain doesn’t clearly distinguish between something vividly imagined and something actually experienced.

When you visualize, you’re firing the same neural pathways as if it were happening in real life. Repeated visualizations prime your brain and nervous system to expect success, to be OK with success, to feel comfortable with whatever it is you are focusing on, making it easier to take aligned action and follow through on inspired ideas.

This is why Olympic athletes use visualization in their training… because it works. And it’s why you can use it to manifest money, abundance, and anything else you desire.

Visualization Isn’t About Perfection

Visualization isn’t about doing it perfectly. It’s about feeling it, practicing it, and letting it rewire your mind for abundance, prosperity, and success. The more you use it, the easier it becomes, and the faster your life will shift.

So don’t overthink it. Close your eyes, drop into the feelings of your dream life, and trust the process. Make it fun. Play with it. And watch how the Universe begins to line up exactly what you’ve been asking for.

And if you feel more support would help to break through your money blocks and you’d love to access dozens of guided visualization to help you manifest your wildest dreams, check out Divine Money Manifesting.

And remember, the moment you allow yourself to really feel your dream as if it’s already here, that’s when you open the door for the Universe to deliver it in ways more magical than you can possibly imagine.
